A case of Durata ICD lead coil externalization: Inside-out lead abrasion?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The St Jude Medical Durata lead was produced in response to the recalled Riata and Riata ST leads in November 2011 after concerns of lead durability and inside-out abrasion. In order to protect against this susceptibility, the Riata ST Optim and Durata leads were coated with an abrasionresistant layer of silicone–polyurethane copolymer (Optim) tubing. We report a case of Durata lead extraction with simple traction only and no requirement for dilating or powered sheaths. The extraction procedure does not account for lead damage, since only simple traction was required. Analysis of the extracted lead suggested inside-out abrasion as the mechanism of lead failure.

Externalized conductors and insulation failure in Biotronik defibrillator leads: History repeating or a false alarm?
Conductor externalization and insulation failure are frequent complications with the recalled St. Jude Medical Riata implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) leads. Conductor externalization is a "unique" failure mechanism: Cables externalize through the insulation ("inside-out" abrasion) and appear outside the lead body. Recently, single reports described a similar failure also for Biotron...

AIM The purpose of this study was to determine if Optim™, a unique copolymer of silicone and polyurethane, protects Riata ST Optim and Durata implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) leads (SJM, St Jude Medical Inc., Sylmar, CA, USA) from abrasions that cause lead failure. METHODS AND RESULTS We searched the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) Manufacturers and User Device Experienc...

An advisory related to the Riata and Riata ST leads was announced on November 28, 2011 by St. Jude Medical after these leads had been removed from the market the year before. This advisory described the possibility of conductors within the implantable cardioverter–defibrillator (ICD) lead becoming externalized because of an inside-out abrasion mechanism. This is a novel failure mechanism, not r...
متن کاملDelayed cardiac perforation of the Durata implantable cardioverter-defibrillator lead more than 1 year after implantation
Introduction The rate of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) lead perforations has been reported to be in the range of 0.6%– 5.2%, with the majority of cases occurring within 1 month of implantation. However, isolated reports of delayed ICD lead perforations occurring more than 1 year and up to 3 years after implantation have been described. Here, we present a case of a patient with a ...
